Colour Influence is the first in a series where we look at colour in our life. Next we took a basic look at chakras.

Over the next few posts we’ll look at the 7 chakra colours as well as white and black. Each chakra colour has influence on a physical, emotional and mental level. We’ll also see how the colour is reflected in our clothes and décor. Starting at the Base Chakra with Colour RED

Today we’re looking at the colour RED      The colour Red calls us into action!

The Base chakra is situated at the base of the spine, and radiates RED as its dominant colour. It holds our instinct for survival. It keeps us grounded.

  • Physically –  This chakra is responsible for our flow of life energy. It displays our physical strength and vitality. A healthy radiating RED chakra would show you as being energetic and full of life.
  • Emotionally – This chakra controls how we express our feelings through the colour RED. Positive feelings  are expressed  through warmth and friendship. Negative feelings show as anger and aggression.
  • Mentally – Red reflects positively as a strong will, negatively as being pushy.

The colour RED in Décor

Red is a colour suited to areas where there is activity. Kitchens, playrooms, dining rooms, dance studios, discos and community halls. It is a dramatic colour and should be used sparingly for the best effect.

Bright hues can produce an unsettled tense effect. Too dark and it can create an unpleasant heavy atmosphere.

Red is rarely used for wall colours. Use red for trim colours.  Accent a room with red in cushions, table linen, pictures, vases etc to create a lively room.

Red contracts space, promotes excitement and boldness

Conclusion – the colour RED helps us feel vibrant and energized, ready for action. Add a little in clothing or décor to create zing!
